Zarpa wurde 1977 in Valencia gegründet. Aktiv war die Band zwischen 1977 und 1988, kurzzeitig im Jahr 1992 und dann wieder seit 1999. Auf den mir bekannten Alben der Band bietet sie traditionellen Heavy Metal/Hard Rock.
Ihr 1983'er Album "¿Ángeles o Demonios?" gehört zu den besten und bekanntesten Alben Spaniens (im Bereich Heavy Metal natürlich). Bei dieser LP "Zarpasaurio" handelt es sich um die Veröffentlichung eines Demos von 1981 mit neuaufgenommenem Gesang des Originalsängers Vicente Feijoo und remasterten Bandmaterial.
Gesang ist an manchen höheren Stellen ein bisschen wackelig. Die Sprache verleiht den Songs allgemein jedoch auch eine gewisse Härte. Der Sound ist insgesamt recht bluesig und sehr britisch (Hard Rock, Deep Purple ...). Das Remastering gefällt mir sehr gut, da die Instrumente klar und kraftvoll klingen.

1.Volar
Ein sehr guter Opener mit eingängigem Refrain.
2.Mundo que arde
Sehr eingängiger Rhytmus. Die Musik bleibt recht schnell hängen.
3.Recorrido viernes 25
Deutlich schnellerer Beginn. Härter als die vorherigen beiden Songs, schöne Melodien. Mitsingteil (ohne Gitarren und Bass). Ein weiterer Favorit
4.No me mires Caín
Dieser Song ist deutlich rockiger, besitzt einen Iron Maiden-Rhytmus und einen relativ langen Instrumentalteil.
5.Pasemos a la acción
Nun gehts in Richtung Blus-/Heavy-Rock.
6.Paseando por las calles de mi ciudad
Sehr bluesig und eingängig. (Beim ersten Hören kam mir bei dem Riff "Marius Müller Westernhagen - Es geht mir gut" in den Sinn. Das machte mir doch ein wenig Angst.)

1.Sin salida
Gemäßigtes Tempo. Hit.
2.Zarpasaurio
Maiden-Beginn Gitarre. Noch gefühlvollerer Gesang als bei den anderen Stücken. Bester Song.
3.Lo podemos hacer
"Lo podemos hacer" besitzt einen sehr hohen Gesang, hier merkt man die, sicher dem Alter geschuldeten, Schwierigkeiten mit den hohen Tönen. Die Intensität des Songs steigert sich in seinem Verlauf.
4.La vida futura
Eingänges Riff/Rhytmus und Refrain. Gesamteindruck viel besser als beim Vorgänger.
5.El carnicero
Zum Abschluß wird die Gitarre noch mal härter und der Gesang tiefer.
Fazit: "Zarpasaurio" ist ein sehr gutes Album. Mir gefällt es noch ein kleines bisschen besser als "¿Ángeles o Demonios?". Für Fans "fremdsprachigen" Hard Rocks/ Metals auf jeden Fall mehr als ein Ohr wert.
Anspieltipps: "Volar", "Recorrido viernes 25", "Sin Salida", "Zarpasaurio" und "El carnicero".

English:
"Zarpa" was found in 1977 in Valencia (Spain). The band was active between 1977 and 1988, shortly in 1992 and from 1999 onwards.
On the albums I know the band offers traditional heavy metal/hard rock.
Their album "¿o Ángeles Demonios?" (1983) is one of the best and most famous albums of Spain (in Heavy Metal, of course). This LP "Zarpasaurio" is the release of a demo from 1981 with rerecorded vocals by original singer Vicente Feijoo and remastered tape material.
In higher parts the singing is a bit wobbly. The language leads to a certain aggression and passion in the songs. The sound is actually quite bluesy and very British (hard rock, Deep Purple ...). I like the remastered sound very much, because the instruments sound clear and powerful.

A very good opener with a catchy chorus.
2.Mundo que arde
Very catchy rhythm. The music gets stuck in the ear quickly.
3.Recorrido viernes 25
Significantly faster start and harder than the previous two songs, beautiful melodies. Sing-a-long part (without guitar and bass). Should be a great live song. Another favorite.
4.No me mires Caín
This song is much more rock, it has a "Iron Maiden"- guitar rhythm and a quite long instrumental section.
5.Pasemos a la acción
This is a pretty Blus-/Heavy-Rock song.
6.Paseando por las calles de mi ciudad
Very bluesy and catchy. (When I first heard that riff I had to think of "Marius Müller Westernhagen - Es geht mir gut". That was a little bit scary)

1.Sin salida
Moderate pace. Hit.
2.Zarpasaurio
Again a "Iron Maiden"-guitar in the beginning. Very soulful voice, even more than on the other pieces. Best Song.
3.Lo podemos hacer
"Lo podemos hacer" has a very high voice, here you realize that, certainly due to age, the singer got some problems with the higher notes. The intensity of the song increases in its course.
4.La vida futura
Catchy riff / rhythm and chorus. Much better than the song before.
5.El carnicero
Last Song got harder guitar and deeper vocals again.
Conclusion: "Zarpasaurio" is a very good album. I like it a little bit more than "¿o Ángeles Demonios". Fans of "foreign"-language Hard Rock / Metal fans should listen to this record.

Well, the first album of Zarpa "4 jinetes del apocalipsis"(The four Horsemen of the Apocalypse) is from 1978 and the second "¿Angeles o demonios?" (Angels or demons?) is from 1983. From the first to second album, there is only demos, because those years is very dificult the recording of one album
by the high price of studios, the distribution and more conditions what the unique way is across one records company.
"Zarpasaurio" was a demo in 1981 with a sound between the first two records, really Heavy-Rock.But in 2012 is published in vinyl by lullabye records and Vicente Feijoo, the original guitar and vocals from the beginning in the band.
The part of voice was re-recorded in the 2001, but the rest is from 1981. The material has been remasterized in the Quarz Poblet Studios. I think now what the sound is really a new album from the past and is not a demo as in the beginning.

Lullabye is a new label devoted to recover unreleased spanish heavy metal music, both of main and underground interesting bands. This kind of stuff will be presented in limited editions on vinyl format according to collector´s liking.
On this calling card, the chosen one is "Zarpasaurio", a previously unreleased recording of the great Zarpa, totally forgotten stuff since 1981, just before the edition of their gem "Ángeles o Demonios" from 1983, and after a long stop since 1978 with "Los 4 Jinetes del Apocalipsis".
Limited to 250 copies, this Lp containing 11 killer tracks is carefully presented incluiding an insert with the lyrics. We sincerely hope that if you get your copy can enjoy listening it the same as us doing this for all of you.
