Das folgende “Problem” kennen sicher die meisten: ihr unterhaltet euch mit Freunden oder Bekannten über ein bestimmtes Thema, stellt aber fest, dass beide Seiten verschieden tief in der Materie stecken. Ein Beispiel ist bei mir (unter anderem :D ) das Thema Heavy Metal aus Dänemark. Während der “allgemeine” Metalfan heutzutage nur Volbeat nennen kann, kennen Fans des traditionellen Heavy Metals meistens auch Mercyful Fate, King Diamond und Pretty Maids. Selbstverständlich lernt man mit weitreichenderer Beschäftigung auch weitere gute Bands kennen. In vielen Fällen ist eine gewisse Ignoranz wirklich erschreckend (ich nehme mich da natürlich nicht aus, dafür habe ich einen zu einfach definierbaren Musikgeschmack). Ich freue mich aber in jedem Fall immer, neue Bands kennenzulernen.

Wasted aus Dragør (bei Copenhagen) ist eine dieser unbekannteren Bands.

1980 gegründet, veröffentlichten sie ihr Debütalbum im Jahr 1984. Das nachfolgende Album wurde zwar aufgenommen, erschien aber aufgrund der Auflösung der Band nicht mehr offiziell (The Final Convulsion, wird nun jedoch auch bald auf Denomination Records auf Vinyl und CD erscheinen).

Ein Review dazu kommt auch noch, nun liegt aber zunächst "Halloween… The Night Of" auf dem Plattenteller.

Die Musik lässt sich als eine Mischung aus Halloween, Evil, Mercyful Fate und anderer Horror Metal Bands beschreiben. Alle Songs befinden sich im Mid- bis Up-Tempobereich. Der Sound ist als eher „schmutzig“ zu bezeichnen, was in diesem Fall aber eine positive Aussage ist, da er die Authentizität der Scheibe unterstützt. Der Gesang reicht von typischem, klarerem „Black/Thrash“ bis zu gelegentlichen hohen Schreien. Es sind verschiedene Elemente innerhalb der Songs, die jeden Song von den anderen abhebt. „Halloween“, z.B., beginnt mit Glöckenschlägen und –spiel bevor ein Ohrwurmriff einsetzt. Wenn nicht alleine dieser Song ausreicht um von der Güte der Platte überzeugt zu werden, so ist dies sicher nach dem Hören der zweite Seite der Fall.

Wie gewöhnlich rate ich dazu, das Album an einem Stück zu hören. Wenn sich jemand zunächst einmal reinhören möchte, empfehle ich: "Halloween", "The King", "Chained", "Evil", "I’m Burning".

Abschließend bleibt eigentlich nur eines zu sagen: "Halloween… The Night Of" ist ein sehr unterbewertetes und unbekanntes Album im Horror Metal Genre und der klassischen europäischen Metalszene.

Talking about metal from Denmark is quite difficult as there aren’t much people knowing some bands besides the "big ones". Nowadays the only name you hear from a "regular" metal fan is Volbeat. Fans of traditional heavy metal might mention Mercyful Fate, King Diamond and Pretty Maids. Of course you don’t stop here, if you are really interested in this kind of music. The festivals with traditional and "underground" metal bands help to discover great "new bands".

To be honest: you can’t really talk about most of the current or new "bigger" bands with me as I’m not into them. Is it even possible that to people are on the complete same stage of interest? I guess not.

Wasted form Dragør (nearCopenhagen) is one of them. Formed in 1980 they released their debut album in 1984. They also recorded another album (The Final Convulsion) one year later which is not officially released yet. (It will be released soon on Denomination Records on vinyl and CD, too), but split up before being able to release it.

There will be a review about the second album as well but now "Halloween… The Night Of" is spinning on the turntable.

The music may be described as a mixture of Halloween, Evil, Mercyful Fate and other horror metal bands. Most songs are mid tempo up to upper tempo. The sound is quite "dirty", which in this case is positive. The whole record is very authentic because of this sound. The vocal reaches from deeper clean "black/thrash" to to high-pitched screams.

Every song got different parts, making it a great song. "Halloween", for example, starts with a tolling bell and a carillon, before the catchy riff starts. It’s the only song you need to fall in love with the record. If this is not enough the second side of the record is fantastic.

I would advise to listen to the whole record, as I mostly do. But if you just want to check them out, you may listen to the following songs first: "Halloween", "The King", "Chained", "Evil", "I’m Burning".

All in all you can definitely say that it’s a very underrated and unknown record in the horror metal genre and the european classic metal scene.
